Former Chelsea and Blackburn Rovers striker Chris Sutton agreed with Guardiola and Silva and stated Kavanagh’s verdict seemed like a “sheer guess”.
“I feel the sport has gone,” added Sutton. “Is Thiaw actually going to cease that? The space from Semenyo is a yard, a yard and a half. Thiaw will not be going to react to that.”
Ex-Liverpool and England midfielder Jamie Redknapp and Newcastle defender Dan Burn stated it was the right name to rule out Semenyo’s effort, although each criticised the method.
“If they’d given the aim there would not be one individual that checked out this and thought it should not have been allowed,” stated Redknapp.
“However by the letter of the legislation, whether or not we prefer it or not, it’s the proper resolution.”
In the meantime, Burn, who missed the sport via harm, added: “I do assume it’s the proper resolution, I simply do not just like the subjective offside. It is both offside, or it isn’t.
“We do not wish to see that, however by the letter of the legislation it must be disallowed.”
Former Manchester Metropolis defender Micah Richards stated: “I perceive the method however VAR wasn’t introduced in for that reason right here.
“That is anti-goal which they stated they weren’t going to do, they stated they weren’t going to re-referee the sport.
“This for me is re-refereeing the sport. They’re each going at it. It is likely to be proper, however I do not assume we must be taking away targets for this. Why take 5 minutes?”
